Personal
During 2020, that now infamous year, on top of having DT for president and the daunting possibility that he might stay in office, and the pandemic upending our lives, along came the bizarre news about Yogi Bhajan, I had been experiencing a variety of serious health issues. I wound up having a stent placed at the beginning of the pandemic, just a few days before everything closed down. Then shortly afterwards, I was diagnosed with CLL Lymphoma and was treated with 4 six-hour infusions every 4 weeks, with a total of 4 sessions, before it was determined that I was in remission. The first four weeks of this was utter hell, I lost 20 pounds in the first six weeks, as I could hardly eat anything, going down to 145 pounds, and my oncologist said that he would have to take me off the treatment protocol as, he said, that I could not afford to lose any more weight. Which was then alleviated by my being guided by a functional medicine doctor to an oncological acupuncturist and an oncological nutritionist
The functional medicine doctor and the oncological nutritionist came up with two gut supplements that turned things around for me within twelve hours of my beginning to take them. I gained ten pounds in the following month and am now back to 160 pounds and trying not to gain any more weight. My heart goes out to those being treated for cancer who do not know about or cannot access this kind of non-allopathic medical support.
The oncological acupuncturist is Dr. Amy Matecki, who, after many years of persistence, persuaded Sutter Health to set up a Chinese Medicine wing within their Oakland Summit Hospital. The oncological nutritionist Tinrin Chew can be most easily accessed through Dr. Matecki’s office.
The supplements I took, which I was given to understand were healing to the mitochondria in my gut are: Glutagenics & GI Revive.
Prabhu Nam Kaur and I were midway through leading a Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training Course when in-person events were closed down due to the pandemic, so we wound up switching to Zoom, which turned out to be vastly more work than the in-person version of the training. Some people dropped out because of the news about Yogi Bhajan, and some dropped out because they could not face Zoom on their weekends when they were online and frequently on Zoom all week long.
We finished the course, which may well be the last such course I will be involved in. This is not so much because of what we have learned about Yogi Bhajan, though this is certainly a factor, but, primarily, because I wish to focus all my energy on getting my book published and then attend to the follow up work that the book calls for.
